1964 Pontiac GTO

$24,995

Description

During the early 1960's, Pontiac Performance became a household name as their massive big iron, high horsepower Catalina's dominated the drag strips during weekend bracket racing events. The next logical step was the GTO. The formula for the GTO was simple: Big engine plus a midsize car equals muscle car. The GTO, introduced in 1964, is a direct result of the “Horse Power Wars” of the early 60's and represented the first mass marketed mid-sized car with a high horsepower motor. Pontiacs perseverance pushed all other companies to keep up; the GTO marked the beginning of the Muscle Car Era. We are pleased to offer this top shelf, three owner, 1964 Pontiac GTO 4-Speed Convertible for consideration. According to Pontiac Historical Services, the car came configured as follows from the factory: Grenadier Red Exterior paint over black Interior with Ivory convertible top. The car came power with Pontiac's 389 big block engine, 4 speed M20 manual transmission and 3.23 rear axle. Factory options included: 4 Barrel Carb, dual exhaust, push button radio, windshield washer and dual speed wipers, deluxe wheel discs, rear back up lamp, retractable seat belts, bucket seats, console, Soft ray tinted windscreen, power operated top, steering wheel with deluxe horn ring, dual horn tone, courtesy lamps and red line tires.

The car has been the recipient of a ground up style restoration in 2023, and appears to have retained its original floors and factory sheet metal. It is finished exactly as it left the factory with the exception of a factory correct tri-power carb and intake system that has been added during a complete rebuild of the engine. (why wouldn't you). Today as a result of consistent care and climate-controlled storage, the car remains in fantastic condition in all areas. The Grenadier Red Exterior paint remains excellent in all areas, the convertible top is excellent and operates flawlessly, the interior carpet has been replaced along with the seat upholstery but also retains the the original console, dash tooled fascia, and interior trim and trinket pieces. Under the hood is highly detailed, and the motor has been completely rebuilt, balanced and blue printed by the skilled hands.

Overall, this is an excellent example of an automotive legend. The car has always been well kept, complete, running and driving example and the miles are original. 1964 is the first year for the GTO and arguably the best. These cars have proven to be worthy investments as well as great cars to own and drive. The car offered here checks all the boxes for the muscle car enthusiast and will always have global demand. Documentation includes: PHS Documentation, owner history, detailed account of the engine rebuild, dyno sheets, and other services.
